I was born on December 1, 1943, and my parents, Paul and Faye Hanna, named me George Henry Hanna.  My mother told my grandparents they named me that because it would look good on a shingle.  For those who don’t know, professional people like lawyers and doctors would hang out a shingle with their name on it when they began their practice.

Albert was born June 4, 1950, a beautiful baby boy with the biggest brown eyes that sparkled.

Then at 9 months, he had surgery for a double hernia.  He grew strong after that.  He wasn’t right somehow.  He started having problems walking.  His left arm wasn’t right.  He was having what my parents called “fits”.  They took him to the doctor.

Let me introduce my family. My wife and I are Marge and Fred Hess. Our special needs daughter is Kathryn (Kitty) Hess. Kitty lives at the Appletree Group Home. She came to live at the Airport Group Home in November of 1993 almost 15 years ago. This is a message of hope to parents of special needs individuals, but it starts with fear of the future to young parents.
