Matt_Miller_cropped_and_resizedMatt Miller of Valparaiso recently achieved something that only 5% of all Boy Scouts have achieved – he became an Eagle Scout.  To earn this rank, Matt has successfully progressed through 5 other ranks, earned 21 merit badges, and completed a service project with Opportunity Enterprises.
 
“The choice to do my project with OE came one night while my dad and I were thinking of various organizations around Valpo that could use a helping hand,” says Miller.  “OE was one of the first that come to my mind, and with that we contacted OE and set up a meeting time.”
 
Staff from OE met with Miller to discuss several different possible projects, and after some thought, Miller chose to build a stadium-style fire pit with seating for up to 32 people at OE’s Lakeside property.

Opportunity Enterprises was spotlighted on-line by the Post-Tribune!

Writer, Lorrie Woycik, has been active in Porter County for more than 40 years, including coordinating Special Olympics. In her article entitled, Event will help Opportunity Enterprises, Woycik encouraged readers to attend the Jimmy Buffett event (this past weekend) and to volunteer for the Pack-A-Thon on September 25 to bag all the goodies given to Chicago Marathon runners.

Opportunity Enterprises, Inc. is the recipient of $22,000 in Indiana State Tax Credits through the Neighborhood Assistance Program from the Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority.

Opportunity Enterprises currently operates seven Group Homes for more than 40 adults with disabilities in Porter County.  Several of these homes are in need of renovations that will allow Opportunity Enterprises to better serve these adults.  Through the Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP), a contribution to Opportunity Enterprises’ Group Homes of at least $100 enables the donor to receive 50 percent of the total contribution back in tax credits.
